Gaurav Raina and Tapan Raj, the production team professionally known as Midival Punditz have recently signed a recording agreement with San Francisco based record label, Six Degrees Records. The Punditz, primarily studio musicians, have recently been spearheading a musical revolution in their home base of New Delhi. Inspired by Talvin Singh’s influential Anokha club night, they have started their own regular gatherings called Cyber Mehfils, which features radical dj sets, while bringing the sounds of Asian Massive back to its roots. Gaurav and Taipan shall continue to perform as members of Talvin’s Anokha projects, as well as being members of Bill Laswell’s group, Tabla Beat Science (with Zakir Hussein and Karsh Kale), which recently released a double live cd on Palm Pictures, which was recorded last year in San Francisco at Stern Grove. In addition Midival Punditz has a track on the soundtrack to the hit independent film, "Monsoon Wedding". Midival Punditz will tour America this summer as part of the Asian Massive tour, which will include labelmates dj Cheb I Sabbah, and Karsh Kale. Links |
